End of Term Letter from the Headteacher

Monday 18 July

Dear Parents and carers,

A note of thanks

A great many thanks to all parents, carers and family members for your wonderful support of the school this year.  Barnhill is a community school and our aim is always to serve our community with the very best levels of education and care.  It has been pleasing this year to get back to normal.  Students have worked hard and should be very proud of their efforts.

In the new year we will once again ask for the very highest standards of work, behaviour and appearance.  When students conduct themselves according to the Barnhill ethos with respect and aspiration; they always do well.  The wonderful efforts from students and staff make Barnhill one of the highest achieving and most popular in the area.  By working together, we will continue to grow our reputation.  We expect students to take pride in their appearance and adhere to the uniform policy.  From January, we are introducing a kilt which will be available from ‘Vicky’s uniform supplier in the near future. We recommend parents purchase these at the earliest opportunity.

Amber weather warning 18th and 19th July

The government has issued an ‘amber weather warning’ due to the high temperatures forecast on Monday the 18th and Tuesday the 19th of July.

  • Year 7 & Year 8 students will be dismissed at 12.30pm
  • The school will close at 13:15 for remaining students.  If any child needs to remain in school for the afternoon, please complete this form so we can ensure they are looked after.
  • Students may attend school in their own clothes to help them manage the heat.
  • All students must bring a refillable water bottle which they can refill during break and lunch from the water fountains.  Water is also available from the canteen.

Thorpe Park, laser quest, golfing and other trips

Sadly, we have had to postpone all trips and activities that were due to take place on the 18th and 19th July.  This is due to the difficulties with transport arrangements and in response to the government’s red warning that the extreme heat presents a risk to people being outside – especially children.

These trips will be rescheduled for September or October.  Any parent wishing to receive a refund should email enquiries@barnhill.school.

Leaving assemblies – Wednesday 20th July

The last day of term will be a half day with end of year assemblies for all year groups taking place during the morning.  These will be great occasions when students will receive awards for their hard work this year.  Students will be dismissed from 12:00 to begin their summer holiday.
