Letter from the Head

Please see below an important letter from the head.

1st November 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am sure that you all heard the Government announcement yesterday that there will be another national lockdown beginning on Thursday the 5th November.  Schools are exempt from this lockdown and Barnhill will continue to be fully open as it has been since the start of September.  If for any reason your children are unable to come in to school, have to isolate or their year group bubble is sent home, please ensure they complete their Home Learning using their Microsoft Teams account. Full details can be found on our website by clicking here.

Term dates

Monday the 2nd November is a staff training day, so the school is closed to students.  Full details of the school term dates can be found on our website by clicking here.

Covid cases in September and October

There were 5 positive tests for Covid 19 in the school community during the last half term.  Three of these came at the end of the half term.  On each occasion all people who had been in close contact were quickly identified and told to isolate.  All parents were called as soon as possible. We are pleased that the impact of these cases has been very limited, but we also understand the need to be extremely careful in all that we do.

Control measures

The school has put in to place a number of control measures to reduce the chance of coronavirus infections.  I have listed a few of the most important measures below.  Please make sure that you and your children are following these:

  • Do not send you children in to school if you or anyone in your household has Covid symptoms or is waiting for a Covid test.
  • Use the correct gates for entry and exit for different year groups.
  • Always wear a mask in the corridors.
  • Bring a warm coat as windows may be open in classrooms.
  • Line up on time sensibly and quietly between each lesson.

Full details can be found on our website by clicking here.

Students in years 11 and 13

All students in years 11 and 13 are advised to take their studies very seriously.  The government are considering setting mock exam papers in the spring term that may be used to calculate grades if students are unable to sit them in the summer.  While I think it is very unlikely that examinations will be cancelled, all students should be prepared to be tested at any time.  At Barnhill, we always aim to offer the best education and the best exam results possible.  Due to the time lost last year, Saturday schools have been running since September for year 11s.  Please do encourage your children to attend every one between now and June.

Virtual open evening

As we were unable to welcome famlies in to the aschool this year, we made a virtual opening evening video.  You can see the school's virtual open evening video by clicking here.

I wish all families the very best during this difficult time.  If the school can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to make contract with us.

Mr J Jones
