Gifted and Talented

The Gifted and Talented programme is aimed at supporting and encouraging those students who show particular enthusiasm or ability in either a certain subject, or across the whole curriculum. The programme provides students with exposure to examples of cultural, intellectual, sporting and artistic excellence.

This year has seen our gifted and talented students take part in a variety of workshops, projects and challenges. These included:

  • Maths Challenge
  • Brain of Hillingdon
  • Enterprise Project
  • Public Speaking
  • Chess Competitions
  • Master Classes
  • Various 1 day sessions at local universities
  • Brunel Gifted and Talented programme

All the above activities have helped to create a broad, balanced and challenging curriculum.

Gifted and talented students are able to take some GCSEs early. For some this starts in Year 9, and for others in Year 10. They can then take further options in Years 10 and 11 including A Level courses.Other opportunities to stretch our Gifted and Talented students include being ambassadors to our local primary schools, chess competitions, public speaking, Enterprise Projects and being involved in events such as Brain of Hillingdon & Maths Challenge.

We have also established links with several universities, providing students with opportunities to visit, engage in challenging activities and get a feel for University Life.  These include days discovering Science, (Brunel University), Sport (Brunel University), Food Technology (University of West London), and English Master Class (Oxford University) amongst many others. Week-long Summer Schools are also offered at various universities covering a wide variety of subject areas from Drama to Robotics through the ‘Aim Higher’ scheme. The Brunel Urban Scholars Programme has been an enriching and beneficial programme which selected students attend monthly over a four year period.
