Why Train With Us

Lampton LWA SCITT and the Barnhill Academy Trust deliver high quality school led initial teacher training ( ITT ) programmes for aspiring primary and secondary teachers across west London.

We work with Lampton LWA SCITT, the partnership is committed to training and developing outstanding teachers for the future.

Your future

You’ll learn from experienced, practising colleagues and you can get paid, or a bursary, while you train with us. We offer a one-year course for QTS and a PGCE (Masters) with the University of Roehampton. You’ll train in the classroom, and be part of the teaching team from the beginning, building all the skills you need for QTS. We have a highly successful record with 100% of our teachers trained in the last two years in employment.

Their future

Your future is our future. London West Alliance comprises 35+ schools from Infant to Secondary. We’re focused on producing outstanding teachers who will be committed to the achievement of all our pupils in all our schools. Our schools are stimulating and diverse environments in which to train - where children, staff and our trainee teachers feel valued and supported.

Please see the details of each course on the PDFs available at the Lampton LWA SCITT website

Information about placements at Barnhill Community High

Barnhill is a successful and innovative school in West London, within the London Borough of Hillingdon.  We are a mixed, 11-19 Academy with over 1400 students, providing a wide and varied curriculum to meet the needs of our diverse student population. In 2013, we achieved our highest GCSE results and were in the top 20% of schools nationally for value added at both Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5.

We provide excellent opportunities for new staff, with tailored support to ensure all teachers can provide an outstanding education for our students.  Being a large school means we can also offer additional opportunities for support, enrichment and professional development.  The school also invests in its support staff to ensure that teachers can focus on their core role of teaching and learning.

"The Schools Direct programme has provided me with invaluable teaching experience and skills to start my exciting new career in education. The support you receive from the school is inexhaustible; there is always someone willing to offer some advice or lend an ear. Working at Barnhill is a truly rewarding experience where you can make a difference to children’s lives."

- Rebecca Zamora - School Direct Salaried Participant 2015-16

'I recommend the SD route into teaching for those people who want to get straight into the practical side of teaching and quickly learn their new career. The school exposes trainee teachers to a full spectrum of teaching and learning experiences, and trainees will benefit from the experience and commitment of their substantive mentors and other colleagues in the school, all of whom are really supportive. The university element of the programme serve to build on the practical aspects with theoretical concepts of teaching."

- Sean Szerezla - School Direct Salaried Participant 2015-16

"The best thing about teacher training on the School Direct programme at Barnhill School is getting the opportunity to learn and work alongside fantastic and supportive teachers every day. The School Direct programme with the London West Alliance has been a brilliant experience and, in particular, has formed a solid foundation for my exciting new career."

- Mary Nkune – School Direct trainee 2013-14
