Studying History at Oxford University
Karan worked incredibly hard to attain six A*s and five A Grades in his GCSEs. Whilst in Sixth Form he got selected to join the Heaps programme (now the FUTURES programme) and this helped prepare him for applying for Oxbridge. After Sixth Form he then successfully went to study History at Oxford University.

Advice to Barnhill Pupils: Year 13 can be a bewildering year. You’ve received your AS-levels results and after that, you’re now probably surrounded with the constant buzzwords such as UCAS, personal statement and references. For those of you who have already submitted your UCAS applications, congratulations! Now you only have to wait for the universities to respond.
I remember when I applied to my universities and picked a very wide range. I decided to hedge my bets at the start and apply to Oxford. The HEAPS (now called FUTURES) programme meant that I had already encountered many people who had already graduated from Oxford. They seemed completely normal and none of them fitted the ‘traditional’ Oxford stereotype. All of the graduates I met were encouraging and gave me great advice. Therefore I would recommend to Year 12’s to apply for the FUTURES programme as it helped me immensely! You are lucky Barnhill runs the programme and offers it so apply to join it if you are thinking about going to Oxford, Cambridge or any other top university!
